This month, we've got POI springing up everywhere!

Highlights

  • +1.3M new POIs across the globe :earth-africa:
    • Including big leaps in APAC :earth-asia: and LatAm :earth-americas:
  • +96 new brands across 60 countries :globe-with-meridians:
  • Transit POIs with improved geocodes and categories :station:
  • 409k existing POIs now have filled open hours :clock9:

Places

Enhancements

SafeGraph is delivering more POI each month in countries around the world. This month SG Places has a grand total of 43,176,201, including POI with or without geometry, closed POI and parking lots. This is a net increase of 1,358,386 places from last month, including:

Growth in Asia Pacific (APAC)

  • +602,074 in JP 🇯🇵
  • +193,967 in AU 🇦🇺
  • +29,759 in TW 🇹🇼
  • +22,276 in CN 🇨🇳
  • +17,119 in MY 🇲🇾

Growth in Latin America (LatAm):

  • +301,453 in BR 🇧🇷
  • +83,655 in MX 🇲🇽
  • +18,022 in AR 🇦🇷
  • +11,428 in CL 🇨🇱

Open Hours

We've populated what had been blank open_hours fields for a large number of existing POIs:

  • Globally, 409k existing POIs with blank values now have open_hours :clock2:
  • 110k of those POI are in the US 🇺🇸

Transit POI:

  • Transit: This month we improved our point-only transit POIs in a couple of different ways:
    • Improved geocodes for all US transit stops 🎯
    • More granular categories for all international transit stops. Where we previously only had assigned a 4 digit NAICS code, we now have 6 digit NAICS codes providing more specificity into the type of stop :busstop:

Brands

We've added a grand total of 96 brands across 60 countries. Some of the highlights:

  • Carrefour DRIVE (SG_BRAND_e1e0909f070be723) with 1,834 POI 🚙
  • UPS Customer Center (SG_BRAND_ad9739ce7cd4b8c6) with 1,673 POI 📦
  • Banka MPS (SG_BRAND_a41bf96ca16f1672) with 1,133 POI :bank:

Brand Openings and Closings

  • We rely on POI metadata to track store openings and closings, and we are especially interested in understanding open/close dates for branded POIs. It can take more than a month to infer open/close dates, so we report brand open/close metrics on a one month delay.
  • In this release, we flagged 1,969 brands with at least one store closure in March 2023 and 2,138 brands with at least one store opening in March 2023:

Categories

The POI we've added this month span a wide range of categories, including the following additions:

  • POI with geometry:
    • Building Materials and Supplies Dealers (4441) with +108,165 POI 🛠️
    • Home and Garden Equipment Repair and Maintenance (811411) with +80,256 POI 🪴
    • Full-Service Restaurants (722511) with +57,255 POI 🍽️

Other Updates

  • The POI for the brand Western Union (SG_BRAND_9ee39f394d21a7f4848ab78a78da00c3) were migrated to be a point-only POI as there are no standalone Western Union locations. They are all desks or services offered at other POI. This affected roughly 449k POI.

Drops ⬇️

  • We are ingesting many sources and due to source changes and processing changes, Placekeys do drop over time. In this release, we dropped 997,643 Placekeys (478,659 branded and 518,984 non-branded).
