New Category Tag for Sensitive POI

We've added a new category_tag value, Domestic Violence Support, to flag POI offering services like domestic violence counseling and women's shelters. Tagged POI fall under naics_code 624190 (Other Individual and Family Services), 813311 (Human Rights Organizations), and 624221 (Temporary Shelters). Customers can isolate this set of POI and include or exclude it as needed.

Places Growth

This month, SG Places totals 77,291,767 POIs (including POIs with/without geometry, closed POIs, and parking lots) - a net decrease of 146,198. The decrease comes from our accuracy work as well as other cleanup projects, while we still advanced regular source updates, new brands, and targeted coverage work. Brand Openings and Closings

• We rely on POI metadata to track store openings and closings, and we are especially interested in understanding open/close dates for branded POIs. It can take more than a month to infer
  open/close dates, so we report brand open/close metrics on a one month delay.
• In this release, we flagged 659 brands with at least one store closure in August 2026 and 2,162 brands with at least one store opening in August 2026. Learn more about our open/close

Drops ⬇️

• We are ingesting many sources and due to source changes and processing changes, Placekeys do drop over time. In this release, we dropped 595,187 Placekeys (48,521 branded and 546,666 non-branded) due to targeted sourcing improvements.
